The autumn-winter collections seen at Milan Fashion Week, which just ended, were a jumble of disparate ideas and energies. An Insta-youthquake, with Gen Z and Y2K styles colliding. Donatella Versace even put the look-at-me corset darts under the scanner, pairing them with bodycon tailoring and unabashedly kinky latex tights, sending a dominatrix message.
Prada, the Milanese calendar’s harbinger, coupled basic logo-ed tanks with mesh skirts that played with knitted opacity and appliqued textures. Bella Hadid opened the Fendi presentation in a silky, seductive slip that she topped with a matching-toned fur jacket.
Everyone’s favorite was undoubtedly mixology. Alessandro Michele of Gucci, for example, introduced customized tracksuits, crystal-encrusted ties, and reworked classic bags like Diana and Bamboo with a certified AdidasxGucci twist. It was also challenging to ignore Etro and Roberto Cavalli’s fascinating clash of animal and paisley prints. Missoni, on the other hand, wore a pinstriped macho blazer over a black leather biker jacket.
