After a two-year break, the annual runway show returned with 22 designs and two awards celebrating current and rising fashion talent.
Adrienne Jones, a Pratt Fashion Professor, presented the award to People, honoring her award-winning journalism and commitment to sustaining representation and encouraging equality in fashion and its related industries. Jones has been teaching in the Fashion Design department at the Institute for over 25 years and is the institute’s first tenured Black female professor.
Homecoming, which returned after a two-year absence due to COVID-19, was a visually stunning display of emerging talent and generational mentality. Each of the graduating seniors presented a collection of between eight and fifteen looks, complete with accessories, before an audience of approximately 300 people.
“We’ve always maintained that if we relocated this show back to Brooklyn (from Manhattan), we should call it Homecoming.” We made that decision before we even knew what kind of homecoming it would be.” Chairwoman and Jane B. Nord Professor of Fashion, Jennifer Minniti.
Body positivity and explorative identity were recurring themes throughout the pratt fashion show, with a variety of sustainable design approaches, including the use of natural dyes and biopolymers, used to create magnificent designs.
Designers who showed their collections included Trung-Tin Pham, Yajing Fang, Dan Li, Asher Eaton, Urey Wang, Gabrielle Borrajo, Elena Hengheng Zhou, Ziyu Guo, Shenmeng Liu, Lis Yuyao Wang, Magda Cintron, Katie Liu, Tianyi Lin, Qingqing Yu, Izabela Raczkowski, Yuhan Wang, Vi Vo, Lyric Caramto, Julie Moon.
Dan Li, the Christopher Hunt “On Point” Award winner and graduating student, presented a seamless collection of eight looks that worked with structure, asymmetry, and feminine designs.
