The 2023 Academy Museum Gala returned to Los Angeles on Sunday night with all the usual Hollywood glitz.
A lot of famous people from music, movies, and fashion walked the red and pink carpet at the museum to honor the movie business after the SAG-AFTRA strike finished last month. Selena Gomez’s rosette dress turned heads, Dua Lipa’s sheer dress stole the show, and Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner posed together in floor-length dresses that were very different.
The event was organized by four people—Ava DuVernay, Halle Berry, Ryan Murphy, and Dr. Eric Esrailian.
Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, and Sofia Coppola were famous people honored at the event. Streep won the Icon Award, given to an artist whose work has had a big impact on people worldwide. Jordan won the Vantage Award, given to a new artist or scholar who helps put film stories in their proper context and question the dominating narratives about them. The Pillar Award was given to Winfrey for her guidance and support of the Academy Museum. Coppola also won the Visionary Award, given to someone whose new ideas have made movies better.
They stood together on the red carpet at one point, cheering each other on their big night.
