Rejoice, peacocks of the world! Elie Saab has introduced a men’s couture line that is, to put it lightly, colorful. It rivals his women’s collection in richness, with lavish embellishments and stitched intricacy that are Saab’s signature.

“I’ve been getting requests to outfit males for a long time,” the Lebanese designer remarked backstage. “They want to show off, to be noticed, to be noticed.” You can bet they’ll get enough of it in Saab’s many eye-catching autos.

Saab agrees on the sense of drama and the taste for the spectacular, and there was plenty of both in both lines. The first two looks were equally magnificent, both beautifully carpeted on black velvet with multicolored plumage intarsia.

A floor-length ball gown with crisscrossed ribbons on the bodice for her; a majestic cape embroidered in a mosaic of wispy feathers, placed over a fitted black velvet tux for him. Saab is the man to call if you want to make an unforgettable entry.

The first portion of the Elie Saab Couture collection was kept on a high drama note with flame red and black themes. Serpentine curlicues were densely embroidered on black mesh see-through gowns, which were replicated on the men’s wide caftans. While shapely sculptural column dresses in deep red taffeta had cloud-like sleeves poufed up to the ears.

Then Saab went dreamy but without losing sight of the pyrotechnics. “I was thinking about how the light transforms magically, becoming pink gold at dusk, after the sunset, and before the dark,” he reflected. Following that was a parade of powder pink and nude mesh tulle numbers.
